Would it kill you to smile?
Can a chatbot be funny? Let's take a look at a snarky chatbot. We'll also take at look at the temperature setting to see how the responses are affected.

Maybe there's a "Dial-a-Snark" setting inside the chatbot.

So, setting the temperature to zero will reduce randomness in the chatbot's responses. Let's give it the same prompt, multiple times, with temperature set to zero and see what happens. (Also, the chatbot's very first statement below is a lie.)

I asked the same question multiple times. Even with the "temperature" set to zero, the responses still varied widely. Most people only give a chatbot a prompt once, so they don't see this random behavior in a chatbot's responses.

The whole Gen-AI chatbot thing makes me nervous. There are going to be horror stories. Millions of lines of AI-written computer code, full of subtle bugs, that no one understands. Time saved, versus time lost looking for and fixing errors. There are privacy issues. Hackers and scammers will have a field day with this new tool. There will be stories about costly and embarrassing errors. Also, the loss of basic skills when Gen-AI replaces human thinking.
