Generative-AI chatbots, whose responses sound almost human, are based on Large Language Models (LLMs) that generate their output based on statistics rather than on the logic and reasoning that traditional computers use.

Computers are deterministic. Ask the same question three times, and get exactly the same answer. Chatbots, on the other hand, are more random, producing output that varies and contains errors.

Unreliable computers are of limited use. Is there a chance that Generative-AI chatbots can be improved to the point where their output matches the accuracy of traditional computer systems?

The whole Gen-AI chatbot thing makes me nervous. There are going to be horror stories. Millions of lines of AI-written computer code, full of subtle bugs, that no one understands.
